Museum Tours
Creating immersive experiences
with audio, full-screen video, and more
What We Do
Spotlight Mobile is the industry leader for hand-held electronic museum guides. We pride ourselves on our ability to integrate new technologies into the museum setting. We don’t claim to be experts on 12th century French art or carnivorous plant species from the Amazon; we understand that our clients are the experts. Our goal has always been to help them interact with their visitors.
Editing for Anyone
Our FlashStyles editing system is incredibly easy to use, requiring no graphic design experience. With templates customized for your organization, creating new content is simple. With our preview function, you can see your changes in real time and make sure your content is displayed accurately.
Memorable Experiences
Our tours help visitors comprehend the depth of your museum’s offerings. You can let your visitors experience your collection at their own pace, which allows them to linger at exhibits which they find engaging. And with our ability to incorporate video, audio and other interactive elements, your tour can be truly immersive.
Featured Projects
Las Vegas Springs Preserve
This ambitious tour, the largest of its kind, involved over 500 individual hand-held units. Management of so many mobile devices was an ideal task for SyncAgent, our software which allows digital tours to be updated through Wi-Fi connections. With this software, it is possible for one person to push content updates wirelessly to large groups of devices in a short period of time—essential for updating such a large tour quickly. The museum’s tour included a diverse collection of audio and video recordings, and an unprecedented level of interactive content, all creating an engaging visitor experience.
United States Botanic Garden
The US Botanic Garden presented a unique set of challenges for our design team. The living plant collections in the main exhibits change, quite literally, with each season. Our FlashStyles Editor offered an easy way for the Garden to modify their tour. Swapping an image of a plant, updating audio, and changing text is quick and easy. The Garden also features our Wi-Fi location awareness technology; when visitors enter conservatory rooms, the appropriate content for that room automatically displays. Additionally, the devices are robust and weatherproofed for the indoor/outdoor environment of the Garden.
Smithsonian Air and Space Museum
Creating a tour for the Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center, the companion facility to the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum, was particularly demanding, given their overwhelming amount of content. The facility features over 100 air and space artifacts, and the quantity of associated media was daunting. Additionally, a shortened deadline gave us limited time to accommodate their vast array of content. This included the creation of a mobile version of the Quicktime VR player, which made it possible for visitors to experience the interiors of otherwise inaccessible aircraft.
