GPS tours
A mobile, audio-visual GPS tour experience
Simple to create and effortless to use
The Next Step
Spotlight Mobile was founded to create location-aware tours for museums. It was a natural progression to move tours to a global scale as GPS technology became affordable and widespread. In the next five years we are confident this trend will increase, and GPS will become even more ubiquitous.
The Tools to Create
Our GPS tour creation software provides an intuitive interface, with easy-to-edit points in a format which is immediately familiar. You can readily associate your audio and image files with these points, making your tour creation simple and fast. Best of all, the editing is performed online, rather than with isolated software, so your whole team can work from any web browser.
Freedom to Move
With this system, your hand-held tours will allow your customers to move unrestricted from one point to another in any sequence, as they wish, and their proximity to the GPS points you’ve created will trigger the associated content. This creates a seamless experience, where users have no buttons to push—they merely travel from one place to another, automatically receiving your tour content when it is appropriate.

GPS Tours Canada
For the GyPSy Guide, a tour which covers over 2,000 miles of the beautiful Canadian Rockies, we needed to create the means to handle literally thousands of GPS points. As users of the guide drive across British Columbia and into Alberta, they are fed information based on their location through their car stereo. When Crowfoot Glacier comes into view for example, audio is triggered explaining how the glacier once had 3 “toes” like a crow, but climate change melted one of them, causing its new appearance. The landscape is dotted with similar points of interest for visitors, and creating a framework that could manage that much data was a challenge. Our SyncAgent software made uploading all that data simple and practical.
Smart Alec Tour Guides
AcrossRoads, a South Dakota company, created an extensive tour using our software, covering large areas of the historic Black Hills and Badlands. Including such landmarks as Deadwood, Fort Hays, Rapid City, and Mount Rushmore, this tour allows users the freedom to take a variety of routes through this picturesque setting. Primarily a driving tour, users are encouraged to explore, and our GPS tour software allows them to create their own paths, traveling around the area covered as they choose. Whenever they are within proximity of any part of the tour, they automatically receive audio regarding their locale.
IntelliTours
IntelliTours, a Montgomery, Alabama tour company had a simple problem. Their tour bus drivers were finding it difficult to talk and drive in traffic at the same time. Premade tour recordings were difficult to keep in sync, easily falling behind if the bus went too quickly. So, they looked to Spotlight Mobile to come up with a GPS based solution. With our software, they have replaced manual triggering with an automated audio playback system and now their tour content is broadcast to the group over loudspeakers, so their drivers are free to keep their mind on the road.
